Tiles are the most common floor in many South African homes, and they’re ideal for robot vacuums: flat, hard and quick to show dust, sand and pet hair. They also show streaks and footprints, which is why mopping matters as much as suction. We’ve picked three robots that rise in navigation and convenience: a budget robot that cleans in rows, a laser-mapping robot with a mop, and a robot with a dock that empties its bin and washes and dries its own mop.

Good: eufy G50 Hybrid
Best for: small, simple, mostly tiled homes, such as a flat or townhouse, where you want daily dust and hair pick-up on a budget.
The G50 Hybrid is eufy’s entry robot vacuum and mop. Takealot is upfront that it uses gyroscope navigation and doesn’t make a map. It cleans in Z-shaped rows and redirects when it bumps into obstacles, and it doesn’t support room selection, zones or no-go areas. Takealot sells it itself at R2,899 (list price R4,999). It has 21 reviews averaging 4.1 stars.
Pros – Pro-Detangle roller brush to reduce hair wrap, per eufy. – Light mopping with a 200 ml tank, which is handy for dusty tiles. – Slim (8.1 cm), so it fits under most low furniture. – Runtime of “120 minutes or more”, per the listing. Quiet at about 55 dB.
Cons – No mapping, so it may bump into furniture and miss spots in complex layouts. – Mopping is a passive pad: fine for dust, not for dried-on dirt. [Judgement] – No self-emptying: you empty the 400 ml bin by hand. – 12-month warranty. Lower rating than our other picks (4.1 stars).
Key specs (per listing): gyroscope navigation ยท 4,000 Pa ยท 400 ml bin / 200 ml water tank ยท 120+ min ยท Wi-Fi and Bluetooth app ยท 8.1 cm high ยท 12-month warranty.

Better: Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40
Best for: most family homes. It has laser mapping for efficient cleaning room by room, plus a mop for everyday tile care.
The S40 uses LDS laser navigation (LiDAR) to map your home. In the app you can schedule cleans, set restricted areas and adjust suction. It claims 10,000 Pa of suction and up to 180 minutes per charge, and a mop pad and 270 ml water tank are included. Takealot sells it itself at R4,299 (list price R4,899). It has 51 reviews averaging 4.7 stars.
Pros – LiDAR mapping with restricted areas, per Xiaomi. – 10,000 Pa suction and up to 180 minutes of runtime (5,200 mAh battery), per Xiaomi. – Mop pad with a 270 ml tank. The bin holds 520 ml. – Works with Google Assistant and Alexa. Has cliff sensors.
Cons – Mopping is a static pad with no auto-lift, so you may need to set no-mop zones over rugs. [Judgement] – No self-emptying dock. – 12-month supplier warranty.

Best: ECOVACS DEEBOT N30 PRO OMNI
Best for: larger tiled homes, pet homes and anyone who wants to stop touching the bin and the mop.
The N30 PRO OMNI combines LiDAR mapping with laser obstacle avoidance. It has rotating OZMO Turbo 2.0 mops that lift 9 mm when the robot detects carpet, and a TruEdge arm that Ecovacs says mops to within 1 mm of edges. Its OMNI station empties the robot into a 2.6 L dust bag, washes the mops with 60 ยฐC water and dries them with 40 ยฐC hot air. Takealot sells it itself at R6,999 in black or white (list price R12,999), and it has 47 reviews averaging 4.6 stars.
Pros – Self-emptying dock with a 2.6 L bag. Ecovacs says that’s up to 150 days without emptying. – 60 ยฐC hot-water mop washing and 40 ยฐC hot-air drying, to prevent odours, per Ecovacs. – ZeroTangle 2.0 anti-tangle brush, per Ecovacs. – Mops auto-lift 9 mm on carpet, and the robot climbs 20 mm thresholds. – Up to 320 minutes of runtime (silent mode on hard floors), per the listing.
Cons – The dock is large (59 ร 38 ร 40.5 cm, per the listing) and needs a spot near a socket. – Ongoing cost: replacement dust bags and mop pads. [Not priced here] – You still refill the clean-water tank and empty the dirty-water tank by hand. [Judgement] – 12-month warranty. Louder than the eufy, at 65.3 dBA in standard mode.

Also worth a look
- Self-emptying for less: TP-Link Tapo RV20 Max Plus (LiDAR, mop, auto-empty dock). It’s from R4,349 on Takealot, or R4,199 from a marketplace seller on Amazon.co.za, and has 4.6 stars from 57 reviews. It doesn’t wash its own mop. We haven’t checked its full specs. [Unverified]
- The cheapest bot we’d consider: Bennett Read Alphabot (an SA brand, no mop, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only). It’s R2,499 on Amazon.co.za (sold by Amazon) or R2,699 on Takealot, but it has only a 6-month warranty, per the listing.
How to choose a robot vacuum for tiled floors
Navigation
- Gyroscope or “bump” navigation (Good pick): cheapest. Cleans in rows but can’t map rooms or avoid zones.
- LiDAR / LDS laser mapping (Better and Best picks): maps your home and cleans efficiently. You can set no-go zones and clean room by room.
- Obstacle avoidance (Best pick): helps avoid cables, socks and pet bowls. [Judgement: still tidy up first]
Mopping on tiles
A static mop pad with a small tank wipes up dust. Rotating mops with downward pressure deal better with dried marks. Auto-lift stops wet mops dragging over rugs. Use only cleaning products the manufacturer approves.
Docks: charge, empty, wash
A self-emptying dock means fewer trips to the bin, which is useful with shedding pets or sand from the garden. Mop washing and drying help prevent smells, especially in humid coastal areas. [Judgement] Remember that docks take up floor space and use consumables.
Thresholds, rugs and cables
Check the climbing height (the Best pick is rated for 20 mm) if you have door sills or thick rugs. Before each run, pick up loose cables and chargers.
Power cuts and schedules
Most robots resume after a power cut, but scheduled cleans may be missed. The eufy listing warns that schedules are erased if the robot is powered off or reset. Check your model’s app behaviour.
Running cost
Robot vacuums draw little power (the listings rate them at 45โ70 W). Dock functions such as auto-emptying and hot-air drying use more for short periods. We haven’t measured them.
FAQ
Do robot vacuums work well on tiles? Yes. Hard, flat floors are where robots perform best. Grout lines and edges are harder, which is why edge cleaning and mopping matter.
Is LiDAR worth paying extra for? For most homes with more than a couple of rooms, yes. Mapping means fewer missed spots, and it lets you set no-go zones and clean room by room. [Judgement]
Will a robot vacuum cope with pet hair? Look for anti-tangle brushes (all three picks claim one) and a self-emptying dock if your pets shed a lot.
Can a robot vacuum replace my stick vacuum? For daily floors, often it can. You’ll still want a stick or handheld vacuum for couches, stairs and cars. See our guide: robot vacuum or stick vacuum?
What’s the catch with self-cleaning docks? Space and consumables. Docks are bulky, and they need dust bags, filters and mop pads. Budget for these before you buy.
How we choose
These picks are research-based. We have not tested these robot vacuums ourselves yet. We compared specifications from live Takealot listings and brand descriptions, checked prices on 19 October 2026 (including each colour version), and used Takealot customer ratings and review counts as a guide to buyer satisfaction, not as our own verdict. Where a listing leaves out a spec, we say so. When we test a product hands-on, we’ll say so clearly on this page and describe what we measured. Prices, stock and promotions change often; we re-check them each time we update this guide.
