Pet hair is the toughest everyday test for a vacuum. It clings to rugs and couches, and long hair wraps around brush rolls until you cut it free with scissors. With a cordless stick vacuum, you’re more likely to do a quick daily clean instead of waiting for the weekend. We’ve picked three sold in South Africa, at roughly R2,000, R5,000 and R10,000. Our main focus is on what each one offers for hair: anti-tangle brushes, pet tools and suction.

Better: Roborock H60 Ultra

Best for: most pet homes. It has an anti-tangle brush, long runtime and a flexible wand for getting under beds and couches.

The H60 Ultra’s “JawScraper” hybrid brush uses curved teeth and rubber-and-fibre strips that Roborock says separate hair and cut down on tangles. It claims 210 AW of suction, a detachable battery giving up to 90 minutes on eco, and a wand that bends 90ยฐ to reach under furniture. Takealot sells it itself at R4,799. It has only nine reviews so far (4.6 stars).

Pros – Anti-tangle JawScraper brush for floors and carpets, per Roborock. – 210 AW suction (TรœV Rheinland-certified, per Roborock). – Up to 90 minutes on eco mode (30 min strong, 10 min extra-strong), with a detachable battery. – A bendable wand that cleans gaps as low as 5.6 cm. A green light picks out fine dust. – 24-month warranty, per the listing.

Cons – Few SA reviews so far. – The 0.5 L bin fills quickly in a home with heavy shedding. – No motorised mini pet tool is listed in the box. [Unverified] Check the full accessory list. – High-power runtime is much shorter: 10 minutes on extra-strong.

Best: Shark Cordless PowerDetect with Pet Tool (IP1251EUT)

Best for: busy homes with long-haired dogs or several pets, and a mix of carpets, rugs and hard floors.

The PowerDetect is Shark’s top cordless line, per Shark. Its “DuoClean Detect” head has two brush rolls and sensors that adjust suction for dirt, edges and floor type. It cleans in both directions, and Shark says its anti hair-wrap system removes hair from the brush roll automatically. A motorised pet tool is included. Takealot sells it itself at R9,499 (list price R9,999), but it has no reviews yet.

Pros – Anti hair-wrap brush roll and a motorised pet tool, per Shark. – Automatic suction adjustment (DirtDetect, EdgeDetect, FloorDetect). – Up to 70 minutes of runtime (eco, without motorised tools), per Shark. – Bendable “Flexology” wand and freestanding storage. 24-month warranty.

Cons – R9,499 is about double the Better pick. – No SA buyer reviews yet. – The listing gives no suction figure or bin size. [Unverified] – The 70-minute figure excludes motorised tools, so expect less with the pet tool fitted.

Key specs (per listing): DuoClean Detect head with anti hair-wrap ยท motorised pet tool ยท up to 70 min (eco) ยท 380 W ยท washable filters ยท 78.3 cm tall ยท 24-month warranty.

How to choose a stick vacuum for pet hair

Anti-tangle brush rolls

Long hair wrapping around the brush is the most common complaint in pet homes. Look for brush rolls described as anti-tangle or anti hair-wrap (the Better and Best picks both are). We haven’t tested how well these claims hold up; that’s on our testing list.

Suction figures: handle with care

Brands use different units. Pa measures pressure, and AW (air watts) combines airflow and pressure. They can’t be compared directly, and test conditions vary. Use them only to compare models within the same brand. [Judgement]

Runtime and modes

Headline runtimes are usually measured on the lowest power setting, without motorised tools. For carpets with embedded hair you’ll often use a higher mode. For example, Roborock quotes 90 minutes on eco but 10 minutes on extra-strong.

Bin size and filtration

Pet hair fills a bin fast. A bigger bin means fewer trips to the bin. Sealed or multi-stage filtration helps if anyone in the house has allergies. Check that the filters are washable.

Running cost

Charging a stick vacuum uses little electricity. Even a large battery pack is well under 0.1 kWh, our estimate, which is under about 35c at Eskom’s 2026/27 direct rate of R3.56/kWh including VAT (Eskom). Budget instead for replacement filters and, eventually, a battery.

FAQ

Which cordless vacuum is best for dog hair? On paper, the Shark PowerDetect with Pet Tool, because it has an anti hair-wrap system and a motorised pet tool. The Roborock H60 Ultra is the better-value option with an anti-tangle brush. We’ll confirm with hands-on tests.

Is a stick vacuum strong enough for carpets? Modern stick vacuums handle rugs and low-pile carpets well. Deep-pile wall-to-wall carpet may still need a corded vacuum. [Judgement]

Can I replace the battery later? The Roborock has a detachable battery, and Takealot lists a replacement for H60 Hub Ultra and H60 Ultra models. For other models, check spare-part availability with the brand’s SA distributor.

Should I get a robot vacuum instead? A robot keeps hair under control daily on hard floors, while a stick vacuum handles couches, stairs and spot cleans. Many pet homes use both. See our robot vacuum guide.

Why don’t you link to Loot for every model? Loot’s vacuum search didn’t list the Roborock, Shark or Dyson. For the Xiaomi, Takealot was R320 cheaper, so it’s our main link.

How we choose

These picks are research-based. We have not tested these vacuums ourselves yet. We compared specifications from live retailer listings and brand descriptions, checked prices on 19 October 2026, and used Takealot customer ratings and review counts as a guide to buyer satisfaction, not as our own verdict. Where a listing leaves out a spec, we say so. When we test a product hands-on, including on real pet hair, we’ll say so clearly on this page and describe what we measured. Prices, stock and promotions change often; we re-check them each time we update this guide.
