This policy explains how Recom-AI (“we”, “us”) collects and uses personal information when you visit recom-ai.com, in line with South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).
Who we are
Recom-AI is a trading name of Leon de Fleuriot, a sole trader in South Africa. Leon de Fleuriot is our Information Officer and can be reached at info@recom-ai.com. Our postal address is available on request via info@recom-ai.com.
What we collect
- Messages you send us: your email address and whatever you include when you email us.
- Technical data: like most websites, our web server automatically logs basic request details, such as your IP address, browser type, the pages requested and the time. We use these logs only to run and secure the site.
- Your cookie choice: our cookie consent tool stores your choice in a cookie so we don’t ask you on every page.
- Affiliate clicks: when you click a retailer link, the retailer or affiliate network may set its own cookie to record that you came from us. We don’t receive your name or what you paid, only aggregated sales and commission reports.
We don’t currently use analytics, advertising or social-media tracking tools, and we don’t run a newsletter. If we add any of these, we’ll update this policy first and, where consent is needed, ask for it before anything is collected. Newsletter sign-ups will only be added after you confirm by email.
Why we use it
To answer your messages, keep the site working and secure, respect your cookie choice, and see which retailer links lead to sales through the affiliate networks’ reports.
Lawful basis
We process this information because it is needed to respond to you, because we have a legitimate interest in running and securing the site, or because you have given consent, for example to non-essential cookies.
Who we share it with
We share information only with service providers that help us run the site, under their own privacy and security terms: our web host (HOSTAFRICA) and our email provider. When you click a retailer link, that retailer and any affiliate network involved receive the click under their own privacy policies. Some affiliate networks and retailers are based or store data outside South Africa; where personal information leaves South Africa, we rely on the safeguards POPIA requires. We don’t sell your personal information.
Cookies
We use essential cookies to make the site work and to remember your cookie choice. Site administrators who log in also get WordPress login cookies. Retailers and affiliate networks set their own cookies when you click through to them. You can change your cookie choice at any time using the cookie settings option on our site, or by clearing cookies in your browser.
Some guides include embedded YouTube videos. We use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), so YouTube may set cookies only once you play a video. When you do, Google’s privacy policy applies to that viewing.
How long we keep it
We keep emails you send us for up to 12 months after we’ve dealt with them, unless we need them longer to resolve a complaint. Server logs are kept for our host’s standard period and then deleted. Your cookie choice stays in your browser until it expires or you clear it.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls and up-to-date software. If a breach affects you, we’ll tell you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.
Your rights
You can ask what information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to processing, and withdraw consent at any time. Email info@recom-ai.com. If you’re not happy with our response, you can complain to the Information Regulator: inforegulator.org.za.
Children
Recom-AI is not aimed at children under 18, and we don’t knowingly collect their information.
